Yoga Teacher Training FAQs

Are you certified by the Yoga Alliance?

Yes we are a recognized as a 200 hour and 300 hour Registered Yoga School through the Yoga Alliance.

What is the program style and focus?

Our focus is classical in nature. We cover an extensive variety of breath practices as well as meditation techniques. We also study classical scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras. We are in the lineage of Baba Hari Dass, a silent monk from India.

Additionally, we teach our students how to teach classes in a therapeutic manner. We teach teachers the same style we demonstrate at the studio which is slow and focused on the breath.

Will I be able to teach a Yoga Class when the program is over?

Absolutely. We leave plenty of time in the program for students to practice teaching because we understand that implementation is just as important as receiving information. We place a heavy emphasis on teaching methodology: how to hold sacred space for your students, how to cue postures from the ground up, how to use language that is inclusive for all body types, how to modify postures based on the unique needs of the student, and how to make hands on adjustments for the student.

Should I do Teacher Training if I don’t plan on being a teacher?

Yes, in the average training program there are as many students in the program who don't plan to teach as there are students who do plan to teach. That is because YOGA IS TRANSFORMATIONAL. And you get to dive deep into so many components of the practice that aren't available during a weekly Yoga class.

For how long does the program last? What is the weekly time commitment during that period?

The next Yoga Teacher Training Program at Elemental Yoga runs from March 21st - August 4th, 2024. We meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30-1:30, once a month on Friday nights, Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings online. There are also weekly homework assignments. Students should expect to set aside 2 hours a week to complete their weekly assignments.

Where is the program held? And what if I am out of town?

The program is held at Elemental Yoga plus over Zoom exclusively on Thursday evenings. The entire program can be accessed over Zoom allowing students to participate remotely in the program. If you go out of town, you can still participate over Zoom or access the recording the next day on the online portal for students.

How many students will be in the program?

Historically there have been 10 200 hour students and 2-5 apprentices in the program. Apprentices are students who have completed their 200 hour training and are working on their advanced certification.

Where can I see the curriculum?

While the curriculum is subject to modifications and advances each year based on student feedback. Here is a sample curriculum from past years.

Is there a test at the end?

There is not a test at the end.

What do I need to do to get my certificate?

Complete all assignments. Pay your balance in full. Demonstrate via written summary that you watched any classes you were not physically present for.

What is the investment? What is the deposit? Are there payment plans?

The investment of the Elemental Yoga 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program is $3700. The early bird special is $3500. The deposit (which is included in the total cost of the program) is $500. Yes, you can pay for the program in installments.

Will I see a return on my investment?

If you want to be a Yoga Teacher, yes you will see a return on investment. There are so many places you can teach Yoga- schools, apartment complexes, hotels, resorts, studios, nursing facilities, businesses, privately to people in their homes. Yoga is a trade. Therefore, students often see a clear return on their investment mores than college. This was definitely the case for me. That being said, I still endorse college educations.

Is there post training support and opportunities?

Yes, Elemental Yoga offers a 300 hour certification. We also offer the apprenticeship program for students to take the program again, mentor new students and get credit toward their advanced certification.

We also start a donation class at Elemental Yoga for the graduates to teach once the program is complete. Graduates who are desirous to teach also get put on the sub list at Elemental Yoga. We offer graduates the opportunity to put on workshops. I write recommendations for my students frequently. Whenever I am contacted by schools, apartments or businesses looking for Yoga Teachers, I pull from the base of graduates. I hire students to teach at the studio who show excellence.
